Arctiidae Moth
Arctiidae Moth
Members of this family are frequently brightly coloured and many are presumed to be poisonous or distasteful to predators. Many caterpillar food plants contain toxins, while the plants evolved toxic defences against being eaten, the caterpillars evolved alongside the plants and developed resistance to them. The poisons are retained when the caterpillar turns into a butterfly or moth.
